Mar 2, 2017
The Academy Awards have come and gone, and it is time to look forward to the next few months of movies.
March has a stacked line up with Logan, Kong: Skull Island, Beauty and the Beast, Power Rangers, and Ghost in the Shell coming out one weekend after another. With such huge films this early in the year, it will be easy to miss some of the smaller films coming out. Raw, The Other Half, and Wilson all look fascinating to me. Hopefully I will have time to see them to talk about on upcoming shows.
April looks like it will be dominated by The Fate of the Furious, but I urge you not to miss out on Colossal starring Anne Hathaway. From the trailers it looks like a unique take on the kaiju genre. The end of the month brings us Emma Watson’s second film in as many months with The Circle. This film looks like it could be this year’s Ex Machina, which was one of my favorite films from 2015.
May launches the Summer blockbuster season with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on the 5th. I imagine it will dominate the box office for a couple of weeks, but the big question is whether it will release the top spot to Alien: Covenant or get knocked off by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales? Either way I’m pulling for Baywatch to make more money than all of them.
It looks like 2017 is going to once again be filled with remakes, reboots, sequels, and prequels but I assure you there are still original films being made. It isn’t called “Show Business” on accident. Hollywood wants to make money, and that is something we can help control. If you want more original films, spend your money seeing original films. If you need help finding what ones might be worth seeing, we can help you. Email us and ask us to talk about a film you are interested in and I guarantee one or all of us will go see it.
